Angel Volume 2, Chapter 10

Volume 2: Chapter 10 - Living Conditions in This City

There are three types of possible bases: accommodations, apartment houses, and single-family homes.

First, accommodations can be divided into two categories: the bottom and the top.

At the bottom, you can imagine a person living a day's life sleeping in a cheap inn.

Some are like capsule hotels, others are dormitories with bunk beds or triple bunk beds crammed into a single room, and still, others are sleeping bags in an empty room.

On the other hand, there are those who rent a luxury hotel for a long period of time.

「I wonder if this is what is called hotel living.」

「Cleaning and laundry are taken care of by the hotel, and meals are served in the room or at a restaurant.」

「Elegant, isn't it?」

By the way, I have a lot of cash and a lot of sellable items at the moment, so I can afford to live in a hotel.

But if I do that, why did I make Yoshie-san my companion?

「There are business hotel-level rooms available, and I hear that some people rent rooms there on a long-term basis and use them as a base, but then it's cheaper to rent a place like an apartment.」

There's the advantage of being able to leave the cleaning and laundry to them, but if you do your best to take care of that yourself, the rent goes down 20-30%.

Also, many explorers hide in dungeons for long periods of time and only spend time in the city occasionally, so they take suitable lodging each time.

In this case, though, there are two types of people: those who don't carry much stuff or rent a warehouse and leave it there, and those who store their daily necessities and other items in bags with high storage capacity.

「Well, in our case, living in a hotel is a no-no.」

「True」

Even if I were to spend a lot of time in the dungeon, I have Sera and Yoshie-san at home.

Then, it would be either an apartment or a single-family home.

During the time I lived on my own after high school, I always lived in an apartment, although I moved several times.

Many times I wished to live in a larger house, but when I went back to my parent's house and lived in a spacious house, I found it more troublesome.

Of course, I had to do more cleaning and other work because of the larger space, but that was only because the size of the house was a little larger than when I lived alone, and the work itself did not change that much, so I was not bothered by it.

What is troublesome is the maintenance of the house itself and the management of the site.

If there was a problem with wiring or plumbing, I had to arrange for a contractor and do everything myself, whereas if I lived in an apartment, I could just tell the management company and they would take care of everything.

Even a garden that is not very large can become overgrown with weeds if left unattended.

I thought that only farmers use herbicides, but I didn't know that in the countryside, weed killers are commonplace in ordinary households.

「So what should we choose? An apartment or a house? Oh, I heard there are row houses, too.」

「I wonder if it's cheaper to buy an apartment.」

「About that, well. Still, you don't have to worry about money. We can make a decision based on the ease of living and the time and effort required.」

To be honest, I don't care either way.

But I don't want to live in a cheap apartment with thin walls.

Because the voice would leak out.

「In that case, I would prefer to live in a house.」

「I see. I'm sure it would take a lot of time and effort, though」

「It's all right if you leave that part to me. I like to take care of the house.」

「Well, it doesn't seem to need weeding or anything like that.」

There are no weeds in this city.

Or rather, there is no soil to begin with.

The ground is made of something that cannot be called asphalt or concrete.

It is an excellent material that does not crack or chip.

How can you build a foundation on such a ground, then? They say you can do well there with your building-related skills.

「I hear you don't even have to clean out the cobwebs. I'm also thankful that I don't have to worry about termites.」

In this city, there are no pests as well as weeds.

Well, whether spiders are considered pests or beneficial insects is a matter of opinion, but in any case, the only people living in the city are basically human beings.

Things rot, so I suppose there are some microorganisms, but I don't know the details.

Anyway, there are no spiders or ants.

There are no mosquitoes, no G (cockroaches)'s, no snakes, frogs, slugs, or snails.

There are no dogs, cats, pigs, cows, rats, or birds.

「Pets are allowed, right?」

「Yes, with permission.」

There are no insects or animals other than humans in this city, but it is possible to bring in a subordinate monster.

As long as you get permission from the guild, you can even keep low-threat monsters as pets.

The concern is the impact on the ecosystem, but there is no need to think about that at all.

Animals in this world do not reproduce.

For example, dungeon monsters arise from nothing and disappear when they die, leaving behind drop items.

Whether this can be called a living thing or not may be debatable, but at any rate, the monsters that are brought in do not leave the owner's hands and increase in number without the owner's knowledge.

「Over there, I had a vegetable garden as a hobby. So I'd like to try it here, too, if I can afford it.」

「Oh, that sounds nice.」

I mentioned that there is no soil in this city, but there is plenty in the dungeon.

Since you can bring in monsters, you can also bring in soil and plants.

There are also a variety of plants that grow wild in the dungeon, and you can even collect and cultivate their seeds and stuff like that.

Some of the dungeons 1st Floor through the 5th were farms.

I don't know the details of farming, since there are skills and magic involved, but I guess it means that food is not only provided by drop items.

「Now then, let's look for a place that looks like a nice single-family home.」

Also, when it comes to housing, the question of whether to rent or buy comes to mind, but in this city, you don't have to think about that.

This is because they are the only rental options.

All land and houses in this city are publicly owned and cannot be privately owned.

Everything is under the control of the guild.

「Is the guild a government agency or something?」

「I wonder. I seem to remember that it means a union or something like that, though ......」

If you ask me, the guilds in this city are more like a government office than a union, and they do things like the executive branch.

I'm not sure why it is called a guild, but I honestly don't care.
