Volume 1 The Man Who Was Abandoned in His Homeland

Chapter 1 The Man Who Was Abandoned in His Homeland

「Kian, I'm banishing you from this city. Never show your face to me again.」

A ruthless voice descended from the observation deck of the arena.

It was the voice of the man who had been Kian's father until a moment ago.

(Why? It was not supposed to be like this. ......)

Feeling tears welling up in my eyes, I look at the wooden sword lying on the stone floor.

 I was defeated.

The weapon had been flicked from my hand.

This was the only chance I had.

I knew that if I lost here, I would be expelled.

And yet, less than a second later, I was overpowered before I could do anything about it.

「I'm sorry, Kian. I couldn't cut corners in front of the god Azrair. ......」

As I stared at the tear stains spreading on the stone floor, a sad voice came from just above me.

When I looked up, I saw my fiancee, Sarah, standing there with a wooden sword in her hand.

No, I guess it's more correct to say that she was my fiancee.

「I'm sorry, Kian. I'm sorry.」

I couldn't say anything back to her repeated words.

On this day, Kian Vid, the eldest son of the Twelve Divine Generals of the Azrairian religion, died a social death.

In this religion, where miracles of healing are performed on the people, but also where military power is needed to purge the fools who stray from the path, there is no place for a "failure" who has only a cupful of magic power.

The only way is to go down into the wild and become a fool to be saved.

(I thought I could do it, even without magic. I thought I could make it if I just worked hard enough.)

But that thought was mercilessly shattered.

The slender girl in front of me crushed me head-on with force.

「Kian, you are no longer my son. You are no longer allowed to bear the name of the House of Vid. You may leave now.`」

「......! ...... Thank you for everything you've done for me. ......!」

I bit down on my frustration and shame and raised my voice.

My voice was muffled and mangled, but I think I managed to make it audible.

Then I quickly left the arena.

The only pride Kian had left was to avoid showing his tears as much as possible.

All people who are born into this world have cells in their bodies called Tachyonians.

Tachyonians are cells that produce magical power, and by manipulating this power, humans can strengthen their bodies and use magic to manipulate the outside world. They also inhibit the aging of the body.

Kian was born with a small number of cells that produce this magic power.

If he had been a commoner, this would not have been such a big deal, but as the son of the Twelve Divine Generals, the apostles of the god Azrair, it was a big problem.

In the House of Vid, one of the centers of Azrair, the world's largest trading city made of desert and rock, the weak were an embarrassment to the house and their mere existence was black history.

「...... Did you forget anything?」

「No. Thanks, Sarah.」

Kian smiled a little at his dark-haired childhood friend, the only one who had come to take him to the port.

In the surrounding area, merchants and adventurers on their way to the western countries came and went in a hurry.

(Sara stuck with me until the end, even though I wasn't very good at it. I can't give anything back, but I have to at least show some attitude.)

With that in mind, I open my mouth, choosing my words carefully.

「Sarah, I think I'm going to go west to the Kingdom of Franz.」

「Right ....... Well, I hope you can find a job there, get a pretty wife, and live happily ever after.」

「I don't know what you're talking about. I'm sure I'll come back here. First, I'll become an adventurer over there, raise my rank, make some money, and get some fame.」

 Sarah furrowed her thin brow.

The long skirt she was wearing swayed in the sea breeze.

「An adventurer? Kian was?」

「Yeah! I have the healing arts and swordplay I learned at the monastery in Azrair! I heard that healers are very valuable over there. I'm sure there's a party that needs me. I'll start there――」

「Kian」

Sarah quietly restrained Kian, who had started to talk about his future prospects in as cheerful a tone as possible.

She held her long hair in the wind with her hands and let her gaze wander as if she was a little lost.

After a while, Sarah nodded as if she had made up her mind and said,

「You can give up on me now. And your dream of coming back to this country.」

「Wha......」

「Don't you understand? There are some things that people are not suited for, and there are some things that hard work alone will not help. I don't want to say anything bad, but you need to find another way.」

「Sarah, you ...... come here and say things like that. I've been trying so hard to be there for you.」

「I'm doing this for your own good. Besides, I belong to Jibril-sama now,. Don't tell me you're doing this for me.」

「Wh-What did you say!?」

 Jibril is Kian's younger brother.

Unlike Kian, he is the best in swords and healing and is said to be the most gifted boy in the family.

He also had an ex-wife, but she left him a few months ago and has been pestering Sarah.

「No way, that guy, Jibril......!」

「That's what I'm talking about.」

Sarah's words, as she turned her back to me, had a clear tone, as if she had unburdened herself.

She quickly walked back towards the port town.

「――! I'll definitely come back here!」

I clenched my fists and shouted reflexively.

Sarah stopped for a moment and glanced back at me.

The look on her face was that of a sad creature.

 There was nothing else.

 No feelings of any kind.

「I will come back stronger and better than ever, so ......」

It was not possible to continue with the words, "So wait until then".

 She was clearly frustrated.

She had no intention of waiting for Kian.

(No matter what. I can't abandon this path. I can't give up.)

 I bite my lip.

The back of Sarah's figure had already disappeared behind the boat passengers.

Behind him, the sound of a draught announcing their departure rang out.

Kian took one more look at the sand and rock of his hometown.

(I will definitely come back stronger. ......!)

  1. Become stronger is okay. Just not for that kind of person.

    1. Is she actually bad, or is she just putting on an act to get him to give up? Because she honestly thinks that he is weak and could die from trying to reach those goals.
