Serina Volume 0, Chapter 10

Chapter 10 - A Woman's Scream

I woke up in bed, feeling kind of sluggish and uncomfortable. My head hurts too.

"Oh, I drank too much last night. ......"

I guess this is what you call a hangover. The first ale I drank tasted so good that I couldn't help but drink too much.

 I'll reflect on that.

"Well!"

I got up with all the energy I could muster. It's another day of adventure for the heroes.

After changing my clothes, I washed my face in the well in the backyard of the inn. The cold water felt good on my face after waking up from sleep. Yes, it was refreshing.

"Oh. Good morning, Serina-neechan!"

"Oh, Keiji-kun, good morning. What are you doing with that sword?"

"Hehe, morning training!"

"Yeah. Well, I guess I'll join you. I'll go get the sword."

"Yeah!"

After doing the morning training with Keiji-kun, We had breakfast together with Erwin.

"Fried eggs aren't all that different from today's."

I say, struggling a bit with the wooden fork that doesn't stick.

"I'd rather have soy sauce, miso soup and rice than bread."

Keiji-kun says as he bites into a rather hard piece of bread.

"I prefer toast with lots of butter and grilled tomatoes."

Erwin tore off a piece of bread, dipped it in the soup, and ate it.

"What? Erwin, you're grilling tomatoes? That's weird!"

"Fufu, I wonder if they do it in Japan. It's rather delicious."

"I've had tomato pizza in Italy, but never with just tomatoes. Maybe I'll try it next time."

"I wish we had tomatoes in this world. I'll check the market later."

""I agree!""

We went around the market, but unfortunately tomatoes are not in season yet, so they didn't sell them. Instead, we saw strawberries, so the three of us bought some and ate them.

"Hmm, these are a bit sour."

"They're also a little small."

"I think they would be good in jam."

The taste was a little disappointing, but as Erwin said, it could be tasty if we put some effort into it.

"Oh, by the way, let's take these strawberries to Kojima-sensei at the castle."

I thought and said. He didn't look like the kind of person who walks around the market, and he looked a little tired, so I was curious about his condition.

"Oh, great."

"That's right. Since we're both heroes, let's go check on him and see how he's doing."

With the leftover strawberries, we headed to the castle.

"Good morning."

"Hmm. I haven't seen you around. What brings you to the castle?"

I greeted the soldier guarding the gate, but he seemed to be somewhat alarmed.

"What are you talking about, Uncle? We're heroes, remember?"

"Hmph, no matter if you're heroes or not, you can't enter without permission. Now get out of here."

The gate keeper said as if he was chasing away a noisy fly, but I hadn't expected this response. Still, I try to bite back a little.

"I'm here to see Kojima-sensei today. Isn't he here at the castle?"

If Kojima-sensei has been expelled, it's going to be difficult to find out where he is.

"Kojima: ......? Oh, that hero. All right, come on through."

"Hooray! Let's look for the castle's treasure chest while we're at it."

"H-hey, Keiji-kun. GeezーDon't joke about it."

I don't know what we're going to do after we find the treasure chest.

"Ehh? Well, Are they gonna angry?."

Why, of course. The soldiers are looking at us suspiciously, but let's go quickly. I talked to Erwin yesterday, and he said that in this world, soldiers play the role of policemen, so if we're taken to a soldier's camp, we'll get into a lot of trouble.

"Keiji-kun, this world is different from the game in some ways, so you'd better be careful. If we die here, we won't be resurrected, and we have to eat every day. It might be better not to think of it as a game."

Erwin seemed to be worried and admonished him with a straight face.

"Really? Swords, magic, and castles, right? It's a game no matter how you look at it. Like this stone wall... Oops, oh no."

When Keiji-kun hit the stone wall with a bang, it came off in pieces. He hurriedly picked up a piece of stone and tried to put it back together, but it would be impossible without glue.

"Sigh, Keiji-kun, that's enough, let's just leave the stone there. Quickly."

Even the mild-mannered Erwin seemed a little annoyed by this, wrinkling his brow as he gave the order.

"I understand."

We asked a soldier inside the castle and headed to the room where Kojima-sensei was said to be.

"Good morning, Kojima-sensei."

"Hey, good morning, it's you guys."

Kojima-sensei smiled at us, but there were dark circles under his eyes, and he looked even more exhausted than when we first met him. I was a little worried about the doctor's condition.

"Where are Alec-san and Shin-kun?"

The doctor looked behind me and asked.

"No, they are separated from us. ......"

"I see. Well, come in."

"Excuse me."

In the center of the room was a large rectangular desk with a parchment scroll spread out on it, as if the teacher had been reading it earlier. It was a scroll with the title "A Hero's Tale."

"Wait there. I'll make some tea.

"Oh, don't mind us. I brought this for you today, sensei. I bought it at the market. Please eat it."

I took a strawberry out of my leather bag and put it on an empty wooden plate.

"Hee, strawberries, huh. I guess they have them in this world too. Thank you. How much were they?"

"Oh, no――"

"It was two gold for ten! That's two extra for me. Hehe.

"I see. Two gold, then."

"No way, sensei, I only brought two, I can't have them!"

"But I can't take them for free either. Then, one gold, even if it's only half."

"Sigh, thank you."

It's still not a good balance, but one gold is the smallest unit of money in this world, and there's no way to divide it any further. I had no choice but to accept a piece of bronze coin from Kojima-sensei. I'll bring him something else tomorrow.

"Kojima-sensei, did you find out anything about our world?"

Erwin asked, looking at the scroll with great interest.

"No, that's the thing, not at all. With the King's permission, I've been going through the archives, but the catalogs aren't very good, and the search is useless anyway. This is going to be a pain in the ass."

"I see. ......"

"Don't be too hard on yourself, Kojima-sensei."

I felt like you were putting down roots, so I'll just say I'm worried about you.

"Yeah, thanks."

"Hey, Sensei, why don't you come on an adventure with us? We're making a lot of money hunting goblins."

"Haha, monster hunting? I'm not going to do that."

"Eh? Let's go!"

"Hmm. ......"

"Keiji-kun, it looks like Sensei have some research to do and he's busy, so let's do it another time."

"Okay. Well, I'll come again, Sensei!"

"Yeah."

After a cup of tea, we left the castle.

Just like yesterday, we hunted for goblins. Using my skill [Enemy Counter], I can quickly find enemies even in places where visibility is poor, such as bushes. It's pretty handy.

"Eeekkk! Kyaaa! Someone, please help me!"

However, as we continued our hunt, we heard a woman's voice calling for help from the bushes.
