Chapter 5 - Animal Trap
In the afternoon, I resumed the attack on the west tower with Alec and the others.
「Alec, I've finished mapping the first floor. There are still some places that haven't been filled, but it looks like there's no door to it.」
I report to Alec that the [auto-mapping] is almost complete.
「I see. Then let's go upstairs.」
We took the stairs up to the second floor, but just like the first floor, the gray stone walls continued here as well.
「Is it always like this?」
Alec asked Sylvie.
「From the eleventh floor, the walls are a little different in color, but the basics are the same.」
I wonder if the different colors of the walls have any meaning?
「Oh, by the way, there are many traps in this tower. You have to be careful.」
Sylvie added as if she remembered.
「Hmm? What kind of things are there?」
「There are many. The troublesome ones are the pitfalls. The ones up to the tenth floor don't kill you instantly, but once you fall in, you can't come back unless you climb up from another place, so the party gets split up.」
「I see. Then we'll decide where to meet in case that happens. Let's use that small room on the first floor.」
「Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.」
I agreed. There are monsters outside the tower, and it's better to be in a safe zone than out in the open.
「Okay, let's go.」
We resume our search. The second floor is still filled with goblins, but there are also occasional horned rabbits called Almiraj. This monster has long horns, so we should be careful, because if you get stabbed in the throat or face with that kind of jumping power, you could get seriously injured, or even have your clothes ripped off.
「It's Almiraj!」
「Lily, stay back.」
She's the only one in this group who isn't wearing metal armor, and if she's not careful, she can be killed instantly, so Alec seems to be going carefully there.
「Kkuhh!」
Meena was hit in the stomach by its horn, but her armor prevented it. If it had been leather armor, I doubt she would have been able to avoid it.
「All right, it's down!」
I stabbed the rabbit in the back with my longsword and killed it.
「That was a horn drop.」
It's a sharp horn about sixty centimeters long, and I think I can use it for something if I process it.
「Hmm, it's already four o'clock. At this rate, we won't be able to fill up the second floor of the map today.」
I say, looking at my [watch].
「Tomorrow will be fine.」
「Yeah, that's true, too.」
The passage led to a room five meters square.
In the center of the room, there was a pedestal like an altar, and on it was an iron treasure chest about fifty centimeters long.
「Ah! Treasure chest, found!」
Alec cautioned Lily as she tried to run over to it.
「Don't be hasty. We should check the traps first.」
「Ahh, yeah. Okay, Meena, please.」
「I will.」
I looked it up with Meena's skills and found out that it was a poison needle
「I succeeded. It's potions, I guess.」
Meena looks at the pink bottle curiously, but the bottle with the carved face shape is kind of grimacing, and it's a weird potion.
「Give it to me. I'll appraise it.」
「Yes, sir.」
Alec appraised it.
「What kind of potion is this?」
「No, it's a lotion. It says it's slimy.」
「Eeehh, ......?」
I could see everyone blushing and swallowing their saliva.
「Alec, I'd like to talk to you about something, but can you give me the potion?」
Sylvie asked.
「What are you going to use it for?」
「Well, anything will do. I could use it to make my enemies fall.」
「No, you can't. If I get another one, you can have it, but I'll take priority.」
With that, Alec tosses the lotion into his backpack.
「Hmm, I don't blame you. Then go right down that corridor next time. There should be another treasure chest there.」
「All right. Let's go.」
We went right down the passageway and came out in a similar square room again.
There's a treasure chest on the altar just like before, but.......
「...... Hey, I have a bad feeling about this.」
I said curiously.
「Don't worry about it. Well, Alec, come here for a minute.」
Sylvie beckoned to him.
「What's the matter? If you want to open it, I'll have Meena open it.」
「No, no problem. Just come here. Come here.」
Alec will do as Sylvie says.
「What's going on?」
「Well, you know」
With that, Sylvie opened the treasure chest while holding onto Alec's arm.
There is a click, and the next moment, the floor disappears.
「What the hell!?」
「Master!」
「「Alec!」」
「Alec-san!」
How dare Sylvie trap Alec!
I could see Sylvie's face smirking, but Alec's body had already started to fall down.
He tried to get caught by something, but the only thing he could reach was Sylvie's body.
And she's also falling into this hole. Hey――!
「Uuwaaahhhh!」
I reach for Alec, but I can't reach him in time. Alec has been swallowed by the darkness.
「Aleeeec!」
What if he dies?
I felt my heart freeze in my chest.
「Alec, don't struggle, you'll get hurt.」
Sylvie's carefree voice echoed from below.
「Shut your mouth! Damn it!」
I heard Alec's voice too. I'm glad! Alec's still alive!
「Meena! We're safe!」
Alec shouted from below to let me know that he had made it to the lower floor.
「Master! I'm glad! Uuhhh!」
Meena also bit down to look into the hole, but she couldn't see Alec from here.
「Alec! What's your situation? I'll lower the rope, but...」
I asked, and before Alec could answer, Sylvie said.
「You don't need to. We can take the stairs up to the first floor from here. Besides, the wall there is slippery. You'll have a hard time pulling the two of us up.」
I'm sure Sylvie isn't lying. If she was going to do something about Alec, she would have done it by now.
「You can wait in the small room downstairs. I'll be right down the other way.」
「Got it.」
