Chapter 13 - The Labyrinth of No Return
We had Nene-chan change her class to Mage, but it seems that she can't use magic by herself.
In order to get her a master to teach her spells, we headed to a house introduced to us by the Mages Guild.
「Over there.」
I said, looking at the note of the address.
When we headed there, we found a magnificent house with a garden, and in the garden, four boys and girls of middle school age were waving their wands and chanting magic.
「Four great spirits borrow their claws in the name of Salamander, with offerings of my mana! [Fireball!]」
A fist-sized ball of flame flew toward the target stone―but missed.
「Ah, crap!」
「Ah, what can I do for you?」
One of the disciples notices us and comes over.
Let's see .......
As I was looking around for Josef-san, Alec asked first.
「I am the one who was introduced to you by the Mages Guild. Is Master Josef here?」
「Ah, Master is in the dungeon right now with the older group.」
It seems he's not home.
「Do you know when he will be back?」
「Yes, the plan is to return in ten days. He said he's going to hire mercenaries and go to the fourth layer」
「Ten days, huh ......」
That's a bit of a pause. But it didn't seem like enough time to ask the guild to reintroduce us to another teacher.
「What do we do?」
I'll leave it to Alec to decide.
「Let's get back. Sorry to interrupt your training」
「No, sir.」
「Then we'll do some leveling in the dungeon.」
「「「 Roger that! 」」」
We're headed to the Labyrinth of No Return.
The dungeon is said to be in the center of the city. Right near the castle, the gate that serves as the entrance to the labyrinth was waiting for us.
Large columns about four meters high lined up, and at the end of the passage between them, we could see the stairs to the basement.
There were four soldiers in front of the gate, occasionally stopping adventurers to check their adventurer's cards.
The area around the gate was a square, where adventurers were sitting on seats, cleaning their armor and checking their equipment.
It's kind of like a marketplace.
「Don't you need a map for the third layer? I'll give you a discount!」
「Is there a party going to the fifth layer? I'd like to go with you」
There were many adventurers coming and going, so I guess you could say it was boom.
As we weaved our way through them, we were nearing the entrance when suddenly, a knight came running out of the stairs at great speed.
「He's injured! Get out of the way!」
「All right, on the ground! Dawson! We're almost there! Hang in there!」
「Hang on, Dawson!」
The warrior is being carried by his companions on a stretcher. He was moaning, but we could tell at a glance that he was badly injured.
We stepped aside and gave way.
「That was Dawson the "Red Lizard", wasn't it? He said he was going to challenge the seventh layer next, but I thought it was too soon.」
「Yeah, they just got promoted to B-rankthe other day, didn't they? They're so reckless.」
I could hear their voices. The adventurers looked away from the stretcher with mysterious faces.
「Let's go.」
While I was wondering if the adventurer would survive, Alec said to me, and walked towards the entrance. Well, there's nothing we can do if we're worried about him, right?
「Wait, I haven't seen you around. What's the name of your party?」
The soldier at the gate stopped us as soon as he saw us.
「No, we haven't decided on anything like that.」
Alec said.
「What? Are you solo?」
「No, these guys are in my party.」
「Huh, if you're a new amateur ......, you should pick a party name, even if it's temporary. That's the rule here. It's for rescue and public safety.」
When I think of party names, I think of birthday parties, but in this world, it is customary to call a group of adventurers a party.
So, what do you think would be a good name for our party?
As I was trying to think of a good name, the adventurers around me started laughing.
「Hey, look at them! They're new here, and they're going in without a guide.」
「Hah, I don't know who they are, but they're really dumb. This isn't like any other dungeon.」
「I don't care if they get wiped out, but I just hope we don't get caught with the monster train.」
A nearby adventurer says whatever he wants. What's a train?
But we've also done our homework on this dungeon.
The innkeeper and Murphy, a fellow guest and warrior, have told us that the upper layer of the dungeon are safe without a guide. The first layer here is only kobolds and goblins, and the enemies are weak.
「You seem to be well equipped, but just in case, let me see your adventurer card. You need an adventurer C-rank or higher to get in here.」
The soldier says, so I hand in my adventurer card.
「Alec, level 27. ...... That's lower than I thought.」
The soldier looks at Alec's card first and gives him a reluctant look.
「There are one B and one F-rank, All the others are C's.」
If Nene-chan can't get in, she'll have to go to another dungeon to level up and advance, though. .....
「Hmm? There's an F? What's your party rank?」
「We're not certified yet.」
「What? Well, then it's an F.」
「Haha! Did you hear that? They got a F-rank!」
「Somebody tell them. This is a dungeon for advanced adventurers.」
「They must've hired mercenaries for money. They must have mistaken this place for a whorehouse with all those good-looking girls.」
「It's not! Gahaha!」
There was a burst of laughter. How rude.
「Master is not mistaken!」
「Stop it, Meena!」
Alec stopped her, but yes, we don't have to deal with them.
「Just leave those people alone.」
I say.
「How about "Beauty and the Beast" for the party name?」
「Rejected.」
「How about "Dumplings and Cheese"?」
Lily says.
「Rejected!」
That's just food, isn't it? She's a picky eater.
「It seems you can't decide. Then I'll decide. The name of your party is "White Cat of the Backstreets".
The soldier said. Maybe it's a cat because there are so many women, but I don't like the idea of ...... back streets.
「Make it a little more decent.」
Alec seemed to agree, and complained.
「What? I thought it was good. Then it's "Black Cat of the Wind.". You'll have to come up with the rest later. The third layer is probably fine for you guys, but this place is huge and there are a lot of traps. Think about food, and get up here as soon as possible.」
「All right. Let's go.」
「Be careful you don't fall down around there, you chickens!」
「You'd be safer up there sucking on your mama's titties. Boy.」
「I don't know why they had to say that.」
After descending the gentle stairs, I glared at the top, still angry.
「That's because you're better equipped and you're with a beautiful woman. It's jealousy, just jealousy. Don't worry about it.」
Another party of adventurers came down from above, and one of them said that, Well, it's no use worrying about it.
I heard the dungeon has a lot of enemies, so let's keep an eye out for them.
